The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has called on its affiliates to co-ordinate industrial and strike action ballots against the effects that the economic crisis is having on you. Employers and the Government are seeking to renege on commitments within the Transitional Agreement.
You will soon receive a ballot paper for you to indicate your view on industrial and strike action to achieve compliance with the Transitional Agreement - or an acceptable alternative. In addition, we will be seeking your endorsement of the 10 Point Solidarity Plan put forward by the ICTU to combat the economic crisis in a fair way for all.
We understand that the decision to vote for industrial and strike action is not a light one to take. However, you need to send the strongest possible message to your employer and the Government, that you are unwilling to take all the pain as the crisis continues to deepens. Regretfully, this means, being prepared to take part in industrial and/or strike action if absolutely necessary. Please vote FOR all the questions.
Vote FOR:If your colleagues are members and have not received a ballot paper then they should get in touch with our Helpdesk who will be able to check their details. Most importantly, you must vote in this ballot. A low turnout will leave us weakened, not only for this dispute, but for the future. A high turnout vote for industrial and strike action will show the strength of feeling on these issues.
I would urge all to vote for industrial and strike action to defend your interests and to show solidarity with working people across Ireland.
