Trade Unions National Day of Action!

29 October 2009: TSSA members are called to rally and march in solidarity with other unions on 6 November 2009

All TSSA members are strongly encouraged to attend.

This campaign aims to bring about change in how Government responds to the crisis we face. So far we have seem little evidence of any fresh thinking, no evidence that fairness and justice are at the heart of that response. We believe there is a better, fairer way.

Now everyone is being asked to pay with cuts to our TRANSPORT, Education, Health, Housing and other vital public services. These cuts will mean the loss of even more jobs in the private and public sectors and damage the Irish economy. Everyone in Ireland relies on quality public services - the Public, Private and the Voluntary & Community Sector will all be hit.

Where are the plans to protect peoples' jobs, or create new employment? Where are the plans to protect peoples' homes from repossession? And where are the plans to protect vital services at a time when greater numbers will come to depend on them? The course of action proposed by Government is both unworkable and unfair. To cut peoples' incomes in a recession invites economic freefall and to impose the greatest burden on low and middle income earners is unjust. They played no role in causing this crisis and should not be presented with the bill.

This crisis demands fresh thinking. So far all we've seen are reruns and reheats of the same failed policies that have brought us to this sorry pass. This crisis demands that people get active and get involved. Get Up, Stand Up!

If the government response to the crisis is implemented you will almost certainly face further attacks on your terms and conditions and jobs will go. These proposals have the potential to see the public transport system that we are all proud to work in run into the ground. As members of the TSSA we all have to stand together in fighting any proposal that will attack your living standards. We also have to ensure that we campaign hard to maintain public ownership of transport in Ireland so that it continues to serve the needs of all in our society.

Ireland's trade unions believe that there is a better & fairer way - Maintaining quality public services, protecting jobs and meeting the needs of Those in the community who depend on these services.

It is now more crucial than ever that as union members we stand together to protect our jobs and our industry. It is crucial that as many members attend the rallies on November 6th - look for the TSSA banner and flags and join together with your fellow TSSA members to protect jobs, terms and conditions in public transport

There are 8 regional protests all commence at 2pm on 6 November 2009:
