15 December 2009: A request has gone from this office to the "Administrator" that has been appointed to deal with the recent "Budget Travel" collapse.
The Assistant General Secretary Manuel Cortes has requested a meeting with the "Administrator", the purpose of this meeting is to get some further clarity on the outstanding issues.
It is our understanding that the administrators legal team is investigating what obligations they have, if any regarding the impact of the talks between the TSSA and budget travel before the collapse. The question of the rebate being reimbursed is the main area of concern. It may be the case, that it is highly unlikely that the Government at this present time will pay a rebate to a bankrupt company. This will be one of the main points for clarification as Budget travel made it conditional if it was to be paid that this would occur in 2010.
TSSA are still waiting for a date from the Labour Rights Commissioner for a hearing, we are also seeking clarification regarding, "will the LRC hear a case involving a employer that is no longer in business".
We understand that this is a very difficult time for all. We are trying to get a response as quickly as possible from both the administrators and the Labour Rights Commission If budget travel staff have any issues they can contact the administrators directly at:
Mr. Simon Coyle employed by Mazars is acting as "Administrator" , and can be contacted by e-mail, at coyle@mazars.com, or call 014496431.
We will keep all updated and informed as soon as any new information comes to hand.
